Large swing gates can present several challenges for automation. A heavy gate leaf requires sufficient driving force, but reliable operation also depends on accurate travel control, suitable safety functions and a control system that can be configured for the actual gate.

Imagine a typical rural property or private estate with a large double swing gate at its entrance. The gate is wide and heavy, while the power supply may be some distance from the main building. For this type of project, the installer needs more than a high-power motor—a complete gate automation solution is needed.

Step 1: Handling a Large and Heavy Gate

The JUJIANG GIANT PKM-C035is designed for this type of application. It uses a 24V DC motor, worm-gear transmission and up to 3500N of thrust, supporting gates up to 450kg per leaf and 3.5m in leaf width. With an IP55 rating and an operating range of -20°C to +50°C, it is designed for outdoor single- or double-leaf swing gates.

This capacity makes the heavy-duty swing gate opener suitable for large residential entrances, private estates, farms and other outdoor properties where gate weight and size are important considerations. Similar 24V heavy-duty swing gate systems are also commonly positioned for large residential and commercial applications in overseas markets.

Step 2: Matching the Control to the Gate

A powerful motor alone does not guarantee smooth operation. Large gates may require different speed and overcurrent settings depending on their weight and mechanical characteristics.

This is where the EGA-18 control board works with the PKM-C035. The system supports automatic travel learning, allowing the controller to learn the gate's opening and closing travel and allocate high- and low-speed sections. Opening and closing speeds can then be adjusted through the control menu.

For heavier gate leaves, the EGA-18 also provides an H4 heavy-duty gate mode. The manual specifies that this mode can be selected when a heavy gate is more likely to trigger overcurrent detection during operation.

This gives installers more flexibility when configuring the system according to the actual gate conditions.

Step 3: Adding Safety and Access Functions

Once the basic drive system is configured, additional functions can be selected according to project requirements.

The EGA-18 supports single- and double-gate operation, automatic closing, safety beam input, electric lock control and warning lamp control. For double gates, the opening and closing sequence can also be configured with adjustable delays between the two leaves.

The system can be controlled directly through the XHouse App, allowing users to operate the gate from their smartphones and share access with others. When assistance is needed, gate information can also be shared with an engineer for remote support and troubleshooting.

Step 4: Adapting to Different Power Conditions

For a gate located away from the main building, power supply can also influence the installation design.

The 24V DC system supports two 12V lead-acid batteries for backup and can also be connected to a 24V DC solar power setup. This provides additional flexibility for rural properties, remote entrances and outdoor projects where grid power may be less convenient. The backup batteries are intended for emergency operation rather than normal continuous power.

One Solution for Different Gate Projects

From residential driveways and private estates to farms, rural properties and industrial entrances, the PKM-C035 + EGA-18 combination can be configured for different large swing gate applications.

Instead of focusing only on motor power, the solution brings together heavy-duty drive, intelligent travel control, configurable safety functions, connected access and flexible power options—helping installers build a gate automation system around the actual requirements of the project.
